Happy Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 21, 2018

Thanksgiving is not for telling your angry uncle he’s wrong, it’s about loving him anyway

Around this time every year, coastal media trot out a series of articles “preparing” a very particular set of readers for encounters with opinions unlike their own, which says more about them than the subject of their writing, but anyway...

This year is no different, except for the fact that their attempts to normalize contentious Thanksgiving Dinner conversation are far less veiled than years past. Once upon a time, there was at least a pretense of impartiality. But this is 2018 and everything with which they disagree is abhorrent and at the very least, racist.....

Nowhere, and I know this is shocking, but nowhere in any of our early celebrations of Thanksgiving is there mention of, “be sure to tell your relatives they’re wrong and racist!”

Gratitude leaves no room for haughtiness.

So, tomorrow, as we’re enjoying our turkey and dressing with family (related or otherwise), may we all remember what Thanksgiving is truly about....

A new poll released on Wednesday shows fewer than two in ten Americans are looking forward to discussing politics at the Thanksgiving dinner table, while four in ten hope to avoid political discussion altogether....

Mark Levin defends Trump after "classless" criticism from Chief Justice John Roberts

"We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges" "We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges"

"What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them."

Fox News host Mark Levin defended President Trump on Wednesday after Chief Justice John Roberts rebuked the president's criticism of a federal judge.

The conservative host argued in a Facebook post defending Trump that "there are ... too many progressive judges and justices who legislate from the bench."

"Indeed, when it came to Obamacare, Roberts himself led the court’s leftists in rewriting the Constitution and imposing that damnable law on all of us," he wrote....

Levin weighed in after Roberts offered a rare statement rebuking Trump's criticism of a federal judge who ruled against the administration's asylum policy this week.

Trump on Tuesday called the U.S. District Court Judge Jon Tigar "an Obama judge" while defending his administration's policy and ripping the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears cases appealed by the district court....

Trump was right: Gov. Jerry Brown proposes easing logging rules to thin forests

Faced with the worst summer fire season in 10 years, Gov. Jerry Brown is proposing broad new changes to California’s logging rules that would allow landowners to cut larger trees and build temporary roads without obtaining a permit as a way to thin more forests across the state.

The proposal — which has the support of the timber industry but is being opposed by more than a dozen environmental groups — would represent one of the largest changes to the state’s timber harvesting rules in the past 45 years.

The legislative session ends for the year next Friday. On Thursday, the details were still being negotiated by legislative leaders and the governor’s office behind the scenes and had not yet been formally introduced in a bill or put up for a vote.

“They are trying to get to some kind of a deal,” said Rich Gordon, the president of the California Forestry Association, a timber industry group. “They are looking at what can get done politically.”
